Your Resource. Your Voice. Your Association.
The Organization of Virginia Homeschoolers (VaHomeschoolers) has lobbied on behalf of Virginia's diverse homeschooling community for over a decade. Our experienced lobbyists represent homeschooling interests in the Virginia General Assembly in Richmond and in school divisions across the state. On occasion, we have also lobbied on Capitol Hill in Washington DC.
Our seasoned team brings years of lobbying and homeschooling experience to the table. Our lobbyists are supported by a team of homeschooling parents from around the state who serve as volunteer legislative monitors during the legislative season.
Government Affairs monitors legislation and policy initiatives across the state for possible impact on Virginia's homeschoolers. Of special concern are the home instruction and compulsory attendance statutes, the tutor and religious exemption provisions, driver education, truancy, curfews, tax credits, and access to public school services and programs. We avoid issues of a religious or partisan political nature.
VaHomeschoolers is committed to creating high-quality, effective homeschooling laws and policies across Virginia. We have written and helped to craft and implement numerous laws, bills, and policies at the state and local level.
We are happy to share our extensive experience with parents, lawmakers, policymakers, and educators who are interested in improving Virginia's homeschooling laws and policies, or in resolving conflicts or misunderstandings involving homeschooling. We ensure that all viewpoints are heard, and work towards mutually acceptable solutions for all parties involved.
The Government Affairs team takes its direction from the membership of The Organization of Virginia Homeschoolers, through our annual membership survey and direct communication with our members. We invite you to contact us at any time with your questions, suggestions, and concerns.
Throughout the year, Government Affairs remains active, protecting homeschooling freedoms and assisting families and agencies across the state. Our regular activities include:
