You’ve heard the old line, “I gave at the office”?
The ability to make charitable gifts through the work place has been a popular option for many people, especially state employees. Now for the first time, state employees in Virginia will be able to designate VaHomeschoolers as the recipient of their work place giving.
The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) provides the workplace giving opportunity in October of each year, for employees of the Commonwealth of Virginia. For the first time, since October 1, 2010, state employees can find The Organization of Virginia Homeschoolers (VaHomeschoolers) on the list of CVC eligible charities. Employees may choose to donate to one or more charities on this list, or may contribute to all the charities (undesignated donation).
Why is CVC a convenient and effective way to contribute to VaHomeschoolers? Payroll deduction allows donors to spread their contribution over the year, or to give a lump sum, if preferred. In addition, VaHomeschoolers will receive a percentage of the undesignated contributions, based on the amount of designated donations it receives through CVC. These undesignated contributions are similar to matching funds that increase the value of the designated donations.
Enrollment in CVC can be done conveniently online, following step-by-step instructions in the “Online Giving Guide” at the CVC website — enter “homeschoolers” in the charity Search box. In order to remain eligible to be a CVC charity in future years, VaHomeschoolers must receive a total of $250 in designated donations in the 2010 campaign, and must receive at least $750 in each future campaign.
We hope homeschooling supporters who are state employees will take advantage of the ease of donating to VaHomeschoolers this way. Your gift will not only help promote and protect homeschooling — it has the potential to keep VaHomeschoolers on the CVC list of recipients for the future, which will help others continue to make donations to promote and protect homeschooling.
State employees, set up your gift today, and you, too, will be able to say, “I gave at the office.”
