If you weren’t lucky enough to be in the Question & Answer session at the VaHomeschoolers conference with Joy Hakim, you missed out on a really stimulating and thoughtful session. Ms. Hakim listened and pondered each question and was engaging and forthright with all of her answers. It was such a privilege to listen and learn about the job of an author and the inside scoop on the textbook industry.
Recently, Ms. Hakim posted on her blog about the lessons that she learned from us in this session. I’m pleased that she was able to see how much we care for our kids and all the work that goes into providing the best education possible for them. It’s fascinating to read about her perspective on a session where the rest of us were on the other side of the table.
“It’s not a path for everyone. To be successful at it you need some teacher genes, you need to be dedicated, and you need the luxury of available time. But I believe those who do it well are offering their children an education that may be without peer.”
