2014 Keynote Speaker
Susan Wise Bauer

Dr. Bauer has been an influential advocate for neo-classical education, and both her Story of the World book series and The Well-Trained Mind have a place in the libraries of many homeschooling families. In addition to the Keynote Address (which will be delivered both Friday and Saturday) she will be speaking on topics including classical education for kids who are not so interested in academics, learning literary analysis, and preparing for college.

2014 Featured Speaker
Julie Bogart

We are so excited to have Brave Writer’s Julie Bogart at the Conference this year. She draws on her years of experience as a professional writer and homeschool parent to help parents facilitate kids’ emerging voices as writers. You will have multiple opportunities to hear her speak and to participate in her sessions, which range from creating your fantasy homeschool to getting prepared for high school writing.

New! Special Saturday Keynote Option

Perhaps you don’t have the time (or the babysitter!) to attend sessions on both inspiring days of the Conference. Perhaps you had only planned to Shop-For-Free. Instead, consider taking advantage of the new Special $12 Admission for the Saturday Keynote Address.

Dr. Bauer’s address, titled “Homeschooling the Second Time” will be an introspective discussion of her experiences as a homeschooled student and a homeschool parent. As she looks back over all those years of home education, she considers which elements were most valuable to her in her adult life, which techniques and programs she has chosen to reproduce with her own children—and even which aspect of her own education were mistakes.

New!  Friday and Saturday Session Line-ups!

This year for the first time, we offer a slate of Friday sessions, kicking off at 1:00 p.m. on March 21 with Susan Wise Bauer’s dynamic keynote address. The Friday schedule also includes our time-honored free sessions for non-homeschoolers and beginning homeschooling families. Sessions continue on Saturday, March 22, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Fun and Education for the Whole Family

The tradition continues! The VaHomeschoolers Conference provides a wealth of fun for all ages. From our annual youth talent show and ice cream social to puppet shows to making spaghetti bridges – your kids (and you!) are bound to have a great time (and maybe learn something too!)

Note: Children 12 years and younger must be accompanied by someone 13 years or older at all times. Each person entering the conference areas, including children, must be registered.
