Karen Shumway has a master’s degree in biochemistry, but minored in Latin during college just to escape the science building every so often. After grad school, she began teaching for a science magnet high school in Texas. Then she moved to West Virginia and found herself an accidental homeschooler to her 4-year-old. The following school year, they tried school for a semester before becoming intentional homeschoolers. Nine years later, she is still educating her 15-, 12-, and 6.5-year-old children at home, loving the fact that she gets to use both her humanities and science backgrounds every day.
