Chess has been proven in many worldwide studies to improve school performance, particularly through critical thinking processes developed by systematically studying and pursuing the game. Learn about what chess can do for your child and about resources to make chess a part of your homeschool curriculum.

Christina "Tina" Schweiss is the Executive Director of Hampton Roads Chess Association, a 501(c)(3), 2017 United States Chess Club of the Year. She has been teaching chess and directing training programs for eight years.

HRCA's school chess program, including homeschool co-ops, have won individual and team state champion titles. She is a US Chess Senior Tournament Director and a member of the US Chess Scholastic Committee. She has also served on the US Chess Ethics Committee and was the state representative for women and girls in chess.

Additionally, she is on the board of directors for the Virginia Scholastic Chess Association. HRCA's mission is to bring the life benefits of chess to people of all ages and abilities throughout our region.

Bio: Karim Morato is a Certified Spanish instructor, M.A.Ed. in online Curriculum and Instruction and Online learning. Former Fairfax County Public School Immersion and IB Spanish instructor and foreign language teacher trainer. She is a homeschool mother of three (ages 10, 15, 17). She has more than 20 years of teaching and classroom experience.
