The Things They Made (Ages 4-14)
Everything that English Colonists and Powhatans required to survive in 17th century Virginia were likely to be made, traded or raised HERE: iron or stone tools, clothing, food, housing, weapons, medicines! Participate in collecting raw materials, trading between Colonials and Powhatans and using tobacco to trade with England. Experience a homeschool education program designed to help meet curriculum goals in a fun, interactive setting at our living history museum. Students will be divided by age level to work on age-appropriate activities and curriculum. Registration is required by February 5 by calling 804-318-8797.
Cost: $18 student/$5 ages 2-3/$13 for accompanying adult; Henricus Patrons $13 for student, $3 ages 2-3/ Free for accompanying adult.
Homeschool groups and co-ops are invited to register for school programs, designed for groups of 10-30 students and offered Monday-Friday, late September through mid-June. Individual homeschool families can attend one of the museum’s popular Homeschool Days to participate in hands-on educational programs with other homeschool families. Homeschool Day at the National Building Museum are being revamped. Please join us on Feb 27, March 27, April 30, or May 24 for some exciting changes. Join us on Wednesday, February 27 to meet and mingle with other homeschoolers from across Virginia! Participate in activities for all ages, including guided workshops and gallery walks, as well as self-guided crafts, games, and scavenger hunts. Participation is free for homeschoolers and chaperones, but registration is required.
The Virginia Living Museum offers homeschool students grades K through 12 a day of fun and engaging programs that highlight important natural and space science concepts. Programs are available for grades K-4. A lab about pond life is available for grades 5-12. All programs are curriculum and grade-level targeted and taught by the museum’s professional educators. All programs include a self-guided visit of museum exhibits and are offered at a discount to homeschool families. Admission is $14 for adults accompanying homeschool students on the visit. For homeschool students taking the self-guided visit with no programs, admission is $9 (ages 3-18).

The annual VaHomeschoolers conference is moving to the Ft. Magruder Hotel and Conference Center in Williamsburg so that we can have a larger vendor space as well as on-site hotel accommodations. We look forward to seeing you there!
Join us at the Virginia Museum of the Civil War for an exciting day of Civil War history! This event is open to all families seeking a day of fun, exploration, and learning. There will be hands-on activities for all ages. Join the Army and learn to drill, try dancing the Virginia Reel, enjoy 19th Century games and crafts, watch the Emmy awarding winning film Field of Lost Shoes, take a guided tour though the battlefield, learn about 19th Century foodways, and much more. Visit our partner agency booths and pick up classroom information about Valley ecology and history.

Enjoy a day at Montpelier designed specially for homeschooling families, or any family seeking a fun day out! Take a tour of James and Dolley Madison’s home, learn of the lives of the enslaved community by touring “The Mere Distinction of Colour” exhibit, take a hike in the Landmark Forest, and participate in numerous hands-on activities and tours throughout the day. This event is held rain or shine–in the event of rain some activities will be canceled or moved to alternate locations.

The Comedy of Errors
Two times each year, we offer specially priced student matinee performance dates exclusively available to homeschool families and co-ops. This full-day experience at the Blackfriars Playhouse includes a performance and actor talkback, lunch at the Stonewall Jackson, and a suite of workshops with our award-winning education team.
