What is Gameschooling?

“Scientists have recently determined that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain–unless it is done with play, in which case, it takes between 10 and 20 repetitions!” –Dr. Karyn Purvis

What is gameschooling? Put simply, it’s the use of games to facilitate learning. In the homeschool world, this means a vast assortment of board and card games, used either supplementally or as a primary means of education. Although Dr. Purvis passed away before her assertion about brain synapses could be verified, as any gameschooler will tell you–games work when it comes to learning.

It’s important to note that even when a game isn’t overtly “educational” by teaching math facts or spelling, EVERY game can teach kids soft skills like taking turns, sportsmanship, communication, body language, etc. Therefore, gameschooling can be a highly valuable teaching tool in any homeschool.
